How I keep my ADA level low

Adenosine deaminase (ADA) is an enzyme involved in purine metabolism, playing a role in immune function and inflammation. Elevated ADA levels can be linked to autoimmune diseases, inflammatory conditions, and some cancers. Most importantly, elevated ADA levels can reduce the effectiveness of Cordyceps mushrooms. To help maintain low ADA levels, I prioritize foods and beverages with anti-inflammatory, immune-modulating, and antioxidant properties, supporting the benefits of my Cordyceps journey.

Here are some options I utilize:

1. Anti-Inflammatory Foods:

  • Turmeric: Contains curcumin, a powerful anti-inflammatory compound that may help regulate my ADA levels by reducing inflammation.
  • Ginger: Known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, ginger might help lower my inflammation-related enzymes.
  • Garlic: Contains sulfur compounds that may support my immune health and reduce my inflammatory markers, potentially aiding in ADA regulation.
  • Leafy Greens: Spinach, kale, and other greens are rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory nutrients like vitamin C, vitamin E, and beta-carotene.
  • Berries: Blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries are high in antioxidants, especially anthocyanins, which can help me reduce inflammation.

2. High-Antioxidant Foods:

  • Green Tea: Contains polyphenols, particularly EGCG, which has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and immune-modulating effects.
  • Cruciferous Vegetables: Broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, and cabbage contain sulforaphane, an anti-inflammatory compound that may help regulate my immune responses.
  • Tomatoes: High in lycopene, an antioxidant that may help reduce my inflammation markers.
  • Citrus Fruits: Oranges, lemons, and grapefruits are rich in vitamin C, which may support my immune function and reduces oxidative stress.

3. Omega-3 Fatty Acids:

Omega-3s are potent anti-inflammatory fats that can help me modulate immune responses and reduce enzyme activity related to inflammation, including ADA.

  • Sources: Fatty fish (wild caught salmon, mackerel, sardines), chia seeds, flaxseeds, and walnuts.

4. Polyphenol-Rich Foods:

Polyphenols are compounds that may help regulate my ADA levels by modulating inflammation.

  • Olive Oil: Extra virgin olive oil contains polyphenols that may reduce inflammation and oxidative stress.
  • Red Grapes: Rich in resveratrol, a polyphenol with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.
  • Pomegranates: High in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, which may support my immune regulation.

5. Herbal Teas:

  • Chamomile Tea: Known for its calming effects, chamomile has anti-inflammatory properties that may help in my ADA regulation.
  • Rooibos Tea: Contains antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory effects, making it a good alternative to green tea.
  • Ashwagandha Tea: This adaptogenic herb has anti-inflammatory properties and can help me modulate my immune response, potentially impacting ADA levels.

6. Fiber-Rich Foods:

Dietary fiber supports gut health, which is closely linked to immune function and inflammation control. Foods rich in fiber also support a healthy microbiome, which can indirectly impact my immune regulation and ADA levels.

  • Sources: Whole grains (like oats and quinoa), beans, lentils, and vegetables.

7. Fermented Foods:

A healthy gut microbiome helps regulate immune function, and fermented foods provide beneficial bacteria that support my gut health.

  • Sources: Yogurt, kefir, kimchi, sauerkraut, pickles and kombucha.

8. Hydration:

Staying well-hydrated supports my overall cellular function and can help my body clear metabolic waste products more effectively, including excess enzymes and toxins. Filtered water is my primary beverage.

Additional:

  • I Avoid Excessive Sugar: High sugar intake can increase my inflammation and stress on my immune system, which can indirectly increase my ADA activity.
  • I Limit Processed Foods: Processed foods often contain additives, unhealthy fats, and sugar, which can contribute to inflammation and stress on my immune system.
  • I Get Adequate Sleep and Manage Stress: Both sleep and stress management are critical for my immune health and enzyme regulation, which impacts my inflammation and ADA levels.

I focus on a diet rich in whole, anti-inflammatory foods and minimizing pro-inflammatory triggers that help naturally support ADA regulation and my overall immune balance.
